Rap History Warsaw Warsaw, 2010-2017

Rap History Warsaw is a multidimensional, cross-european project that originated in Zurich as an educational concept showcasing the roots, history and evolution of the hip-hop culture over the past 40 years. Its universal purpose and popularity helped it spread not only across Poland (RHW was est. in 2010), but also through Berlin, Prague, Munich, Basel and St. Gallen.

The series hosted under the RHW umbrella went beyond a standard club event format – each show dedicated to a year in the history was preempted by a collectible boxset holding a mixtape, zine, an event poster and stickers. Many of the shows were headlined by legendary, international artists (including Grandmaster Flash, Phife Dawg, Smif’N’Wessun, Jeru The Damaja, AZ, Elzhi, Gones The DJ) or accomanied by photography exhibitions, show openings and projections of unique video archives – the PR & promotional activities emphasised the accessible and consistent educational approach of the series.

Across the five years of its existence, the project hosted or co-hosted over a 100 cultural events and tens of thousands of fans, and is considered the most successful attempt at the Rap History events in Europe.
