Hemp Gru are one of the longest-standing, active Warsaw hip-hop groups whose beginnings can be traced back to the late 90s. The bold, uncompromising work of Bilon, Wilku and Żary is as unequivocal, as it is blunt. They first took the scene by storm with their 1998 debut track "Na krawędzi" came out on the "Hip-Hop'owy Raport Z Osiedla" compilation but it wasn't until November 2004 that they finally released their debut studio album as Hemp Gru, "Klucz", today considered to be one of the Polish hip-hop classics.
Five years later, the self-released sophomore LP "Droga" on HEMP REC., cemented their status as one of the leading rap acts in the country and was followed with an extensive, nationwide tour. Their international efforts touring the Netherlands, UK, Scotland, Ireland and the US have resulted in honouring the band with an EBBA award (European Border Breakers Awards), presented by the European Commission to recognise the success of artists who reached audiences outside of their own countries.
Throughout 2011 and 2012, Hemp Gru has released the „Jedność, Lojalność, Braterstwo” trilogy produced by Szwed SWD, Waco, Szczur and DJ Steez - with each of the LPs reaching a gold status. Soon after, Bilon and Żary both released their warmly received solo projects.
In 2018, Hemp Gru reunited again to release their latest studio effort, "ETER", and are currently on their 20th-anniversary tour.
